STRASBURG RAIL ROAD
STEAM POWERED FREIGHT TRAIN
AUGUST 17, 2012
[home]
It's 4 AM!  Time to wake up!  Today we go to the Strasburg RR for a special event - to ride the caboose on a
steam-powered freight train.  This ride is offered only on Wednesdays and Fridays, and their website said to
show up before 6 AM and they would take the first 12 people that showed up.  Our wives couldn't go, so it's
a boy's day out!
When we got there at 5:45, Number 475 was already outside the engine house getting readied for a full day's
work.
Around 6:10 she moved to the ashpit to dump ashes, and then they opened the cylinder
cocks.
There were a lot more than 12 people!  But they added a coach to include
everyone.
We not only managed to get on the caboose, but we got seats in the cupola!
Two very happy railfans!  Steve, one of our fellow riders, kindly took our photo.
