|A TENDER FOR THE GOAT

ADDING A SPRING SUSPENSION - 12/17/2010
The lack of suspension led to several derailments, so I wanted to add a spring
suspen-sion similar to what I had done on the rider cars. I removed the front
axle housing, slimmed it down 3/4 inch, gouged out spots on the frame for the
wheels, and drilled guide holes for the springs. To enable up-and-down motion
but restrict front-to-back and side-to-side, I used 3-inch-long 1/4-inch lag
screws located just inside the spring locations.
Here you can see the sprung front axle assemly. The front is slightly higher
than the back, but that will change as soon as someone sits in the seat. The
seat is a comfortable garden-tractor seat I found at Tractor Supply. With the
seat and the sprung suspension, this tender rides like a Cadillac!
