|BUILDING A PLYWOOD GP35
PAGE 12 - REAR PILOT, JACK, REAR TRUCK
JULY 6, 2014
The triangular piece on the rear pilot had to be modified to clear the rear truck.
We also added the base plate, footboards, and extra bracing.
The rear pilot is now attached securely. It will have to take the abuse of
pulling and pushing forces of the train.
We need a good way of lifting the heavy engine to remove the rear truck, so we made a simple
lever with "L" shaped brackets for lifting the end of the locomotive. The brackets had to fit around
the drawbar assembly. It needed two brackets so the engine wouldn't tip over when lifted.
Sideframes had to be cut to fit underneath the pivot wheel assembly. Then it got
a couple of applications of plastic wood, sanding, and a coat of spray paint.
